Middle School Teaching Fellow (School Year 2023 - 2024)

The Middle School Teaching Fellow role at Etoile Academy is an excellent opportunity to receive intense training and support as you begin your teaching career. The Teaching Fellow will have a wide range of instructional roles. They will be supported and developed for a lead teacher position. This individual must be adaptable as the role will include a wide variety of tasks from classroom teaching to small group intervention and leading non-instructional time (AM break, PM Homeroom). This is a great opportunity to join the network, receive development, and try on a variety of teaching roles.

Responsibilities

  • Co-teaching a variety of classes, following Etoile’s curriculum, and ensuring students show mastery of the TEKS;
  • Leading non-instructional blocks with students such as AM Homeroom, AM Break, PM Homeroom, Intervention, etc.;
  • Setting and maintaining high expectations for behavior in classrooms and hallways;
  • Supporting the lead teacher with student discipline, follow up with families, and students on behavior plans;
  • Supporting with small group instruction, reading intervention, and providing one on one support for struggling learners;
  • Supporting teachers with entering information into DeansList and communicating daily with parents and families;
  • Supporting the lead teacher with grading and entering grades;
  • Communicating effectively with students, families, and colleagues;
  • Participating actively when needed in department meetings, faculty meetings, and other meetings;
  • Completing all necessary school wide duties for the successful and orderly functioning of the school (e.g., hallway supervision, arrival/departure transitions, participation in field trips, etc.) and other such duties as the school leaders may from time to time request;
  • Providing consistent rewards and/or consequences for student behavior to ensure that students observe the School’s core values, high expectations, and strict code of conduct;
  • Sharing responsibility for grade-level and school-wide activities;
  • Communicate students’ progress with student and family on a weekly basis;
  • Effective facilitation and personal use of technology as a communication and educational tool to improve student achievement and manage work related tasks;
  • Implement our school wide behavior system, routines and procedures and utilize our tracking system;
  • Establish and maintain a cooperative working relationship with students and families based on respect for the communities in which they identify;
  • Host necessary tutoring sessions to meet all students’ needs;
  • Participate in weekly manager check-ins, grade-level meetings, before and after-school duties, and school wide meetings and functions;
  • Engage in summer and year-long district, school and personal learning and development;
  • Minimum of 40+ hours spent at school per week;
  • Additional responsibilities may include: after-school tutoring or Saturday school and are based on the needs of our students

Qualifications

  • Teaching Certification preferred but not required
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher preferred but not required
  • Fluency in English and Spanish preferred but not required
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with a diverse staff
