Description

Requirements/Qualifications:

  1. Valid RI Certificate in secondary mathematics (7-12), or willingness to meet all state requirements for emergency certification in this area.
  2. Valid RI endorsement/certification in ESL (required or willingness to complete program in 3 yrs).
  3. Prefer evidence of successful mathematics teaching experience.
  4. Prefer experience with successfully teaching students who are English language learners.
  5. Demonstrated interest in innovative programs, individualization, and a willingness to work cooperatively.
  6. Demonstrated ability to utilize varied assessment methods to gauge student progress.

THE DISTRICT IS WILLING TO WORK WITH THE RIGHT CANDIDATE TO SECURE AN EMEREGENCY CERTIFICATION IF NEEDED.

General Responsibilities

  1. Creates and implements a compelling vision of the curriculum, teaching, and learning standards and practices that align with Common Core Standards, WIDA standards, and will result in college and career readiness for each and every student.
  2. Identifies new approaches and strategies to learning and teaching that are based on well-researched data, student-centered, and always focused on improving performance.
  3. Develops relationships with students, colleagues, and parents for the purpose of optimizing the collective focus and energies on goal accomplishment.
  4. Cultivates a stewardship of collaborative learning and leadership in and out of the classroom distributing knowledge and expertise in a skillful way that empowers and supports others.
  5. Fulfills high academic standards and shares expertise constantly with support personnel, colleagues, and staff to ensure that all student academic and social/emotional needs are met.
  6. Consistently collaborates with special education staff to provide accommodations outlined in a student’s IEP and collaborating with staff to align curriculum with Common Core Standards.
  7. Collaborate with students, families, and educational team to develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in accordance with Federal and State Regulations.
  8. Coordinate and implement service delivery with general educators, related services providers, support staff, other special educators and building administrators.
  9. Ability to understand situations and to make connections among multiple factors, data points, ideas, learning styles, personalities, and potential solutions.
  10. Ability to analyze and evaluate information to inform decisions and actions by determining what data is essential to collect based on analysis of the situation and employing multiple data sources to make the best decisions possible.
  11. Ensure that practices enable students, staff, and parents to interact effectively in a culturally diverse environment in which backgrounds, identities, customs, and traits are respected and built into the learning process.
  12. Communicate with families regularly to discuss student performance, attendance, progress, etc. via phone calls, emails, written correspondence
  13. Empowers students to become self-motivated, responsible, and resilient learners.
  14. Such other duties as deemed necessary by the building administrator.
