Description

About This Role: We currently have four high schools in New Orleans and one high school in Baton Rouge, and we are hiring math teachers in both cities for the 2022-23 school year. Teachers must be deeply committed to creating a classroom culture where 100% of your students are engaged in rigorous lessons aligned to the college ready bar.

Our Approach to Math: Our Math team at CA is truly teacher led. With a high retention year over year across our math team, our curriculum has been built with focused investment in collaboration across schools, research and development by teachers. We are also constantly innovating and pilot new approaches annually to meet the needs of our students.

Math courses are typically the same at our schools in ninth and tenth grade, but diverge in the later grades with course offerings. The math courses offered across our network are: Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus, Statistics, Calculus, A. P. Calculus, and A. P. Statistics. We also offer targeted interventions aligned with our Algebra I and Geometry courses that can either follow a specially designed instruction (SDI) co-teaching model or a Math Essentials course.

We have adopted curriculum in Math Essentials, Algebra I, Geometry and Algebra II, all aligned to Louisiana Content Standards.  Our curricula are focused both on content standard mastery and on supporting students in building the habits and cognitive skills of mathematicians.

Teacher Development at Collegiate Academies: At CA, our teachers never stop learning and never stop growing. Here’s how:

  • Our approach to teacher development at CA is focused on individual goals and growth combined with a high degree of individualized support.
  • Every teacher has a coach, and you will collaboratively, with your coach, create your growth goals and determine the plan that will see you hit those goals.
  • There are some things in common with other teachers at your school -- school goals, school priorities, school-based PD, etc. -- but it is in your relationship with your coach where you will translate those things into what you specifically need to meet those goals yourself.
  • You will also grow year over year as an expert in your content in collaboration with your peers across the network through content-specific professional development and data investigations.
  • There is an additional layer of support for first year teachers called the CA Teacher Residency (CATR), which is an intensified, pre-service and coaching plan to develop you in the skills that we have seen that make rookie teachers most successful in their first year at CA.
