We are a thriving nonprofit network of 17 free, public charter schools open to all students. Our student community consists of over 6,000 elementary, middle, and high school students in East Palo Alto, Oakland, San Francisco, San Lorenzo, San Jose, Redwood City, and Stockton. Our student community demographics are: 94% identify as students of color, 79% qualify for free or reduced price lunch, 23% are English language learners, and 10% receive special education services.  We strive to cultivate a representative team of teachers and leaders that reflect our students’ diversity.

Position Overview

• Our students deserve continuously strong teaching from the time they enter kindergarten until they graduate from college or begin a career. As such, our Teachers will work closely with each school’s leadership team to ensure our students learn, grow, and achieve transformative life outcomes. Each Teacher will be responsible for ensuring that our students have the opportunity to learn in an environment of joyful, excellent, and equitable teaching.
• Above all else, the most effective Teacher will find joy and purpose in teaching children the habits necessary to be successful in school, and they will relish the opportunity to cultivate our students with a love for learning. They must also be committed to KIPP Public Schools Northern California’s mission, while possessing the beliefs, character traits, and skills necessary to ensure student growth and achievement.
• Instructional Aides/Paraeducators will assist by performing a variety of instructional and behavioral support duties to individual or small groups of students within the special education setting or regular classroom.
• These duties shall be designed to complement the instructional program to maximize the learning opportunity for the inclusion student. Instructional Aides/Paraeducators will also assist in the establishment and implementation of appropriate classroom and school-wide behavior and perform a routine of clerical tasks as assigned.
• Work is performed under the supervision of the principal or direct manager.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Under the direction of the Lead Teacher, work with students in small groups or in one-to-one assignments to tutor, reinforce, or follow up learning activities in core academic, language, and/or specialized subject areas.
• Collaborate with & assist classroom teachers in preparing materials, maintaining a safe classroom environment, creating curriculum modifications for students, and reviewing/correcting student work assignments.
• Provide testing accommodations, including supervising students completing tests in a separate location or during an extended time.
• Assist in the implementation of behavior intervention plans which may involve use of approved positive reinforcement strategies, behavior modification, other skills or knowledge to establish and maintain appropriate behaviors.
• Facilitate and support social interactions and foster the development of positive relationships between students with disabilities and their non-disabled peers.
• Support students to be active participants on field trips and school assemblies or productions.
• Support students in community- based life skills activities such as using public transportation, shopping, and ordering food as directed by an Education Specialist.
• Perform other related duties as required and assigned.

• Strong personal commitment to KIPP Public Schools Northern California’s mission & vision for our students and communities.
• Paid or volunteer experience working with or supporting students, children, or individuals with exceptional, academic, or behavioral needs is preferred.
• Excellent organizational, planning, and implementation skills.
• Ability to manage the ambiguity and multiple priorities inherent in an entrepreneurial environment.
• Ability to communicate and interact effectively with multiple constituencies.
• Detail-oriented team player willing to roll up sleeves and get the job done.
• Obtained a bachelors' degree (preferred)
• Bilingual in Spanish (preferred)

• Per California state requirements for public schools, all staff must be vaccinated (COVID-19 vaccination) or submit to regular and frequent testing.

Compensation

We are dedicated to you and your family's well-being! KIPP offers a competitive salary as well as a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, retirement, and transportation benefits. Although KIPP does not post salary scales, we are happy to walk candidates through the compensation package.
