Unbound Stockton Community School is a 4th- 8th community-based charter school that focuses on a high quality education paired with rich community opportunities. In July 2024, Unbound Stockton Community School will open its doors to its founding class of students and eventually serve 300 students during the 2028-2029 school year. We are actively building a founding team that shares our belief that with strong academics, authentic relationships, student leadership opportunities, and a hands-on community rooted approach, all students can become successful agents of change for themselves and their community.

Job Summary of the Founding Social Worker

The Social Worker will work directly with students, families, and staff to ensure all our diverse students and families are successful within our school environment. The Social Worker will provide school-based services to students who experience educational achievement difficulties because of social, emotional adjustment and/or attendance issues. The Social Worker will also run groups with a variety of students and other stakeholders and seek to secure long-term solutions to support the academic and social growth of students. The Social Worker will support school wide attendance initiatives and provide case management services to students and families and develop plans to improve student well being and success, including follow-up procedures and evaluation targets.

Qualifications

Unbound Stockton Community School has launched a search for an entrepreneurial, collaborative, and mission driven Social Worker. To enable us to select the candidate most qualified to oversee and support the implementation of our academic program, including management of curricula, provision of professional development, and development of teachers’ instructional practice, we have established the following qualifications for this position:

  • Understand early intervention strategies at all levels
  • Effective engagement strategies for students and families, in small and large groups
  • Experience with diverse groups including the cultural awareness and sensitivity to a variety of issues experienced by students, families, or community
  • Possess a valid credential in Pupil Personnel Services or equivalent licensure/certification

Responsibilities

Program Oversight and Supervision

  • Provide strategic direction and overall management of the school supports program
  • Coordinate and ensure the completion of daily program activities and services to students in need
  • Foster a positive and inclusive work environment, promoting teamwork, open communication, and a culture of respect.
  • Work closely with teachers and staff to ensure students receive well rounded supports

Counseling Services and Case Management

  • Work with students to develop individualized care plans in collaboration with them and their support systems.
  • Provide direct counseling, therapy, and crisis intervention services to students
  • Provide clinical case management services, including intervention planning, coordination of referrals to relevant agencies and providers, and follow-up support.
  • Act as an advocate and liaison between students, families and other services
  • Facilitate individual and group counseling sessions, ensuring a strength-based and trauma-informed approach.
  • Visit classrooms to support and provide professional development to support the needs of students

Documentation and Reporting

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records
  • Maintain and support school wide attendance reports
  • Prepare and submit regular reports on program activities as necessary
  • Participate in meetings, committees, and conferences to represent the program and provide updates on program-related matters.
  • Completes and files all local, state, and federal reports accurately and timely

Compensation and Benefits

The Social Worker position offers a competitive salary comparative to job experience that is benchmarked against local school districts and charter schools. The current salary for Unbound Stockton is from $50,000 - $70,000 depending on years of experience and educational degrees.
