In July 2024, Unbound Stockton Community School will open its doors to its founding class of students and eventually serve 300 students during the 2028-2029 school year. Job Summary of the Founding Education Specialist

The Education Specialist will be responsible for a caseload of students with Individualized Education Programs, ensuring that every student on their respective caseload receives all legally mandated minutes, supports, and services. The Education Specialist will provide push-in support (and pull-out services as mandated by IEPs), as well as provide support during Affinity Learning Time. The Education Specialist will plan and collaborate with their general education counterparts during weekly teacher meetings, as well as engage in professional development and data days. The Education Specialist will also be responsible for schoolwide systems and services and work closely with the leadership team to maintain high quality functions for the Special Education team.

Qualifications

Unbound Stockton Community School has launched a search for an entrepreneurial, collaborative, and mission driven Education Specialist. To enable us to select the candidate most qualified to oversee and support the implementation of our academic program, including management of curricula, provision of professional development, and development of teachers’ instructional practice, we have established the following qualifications for this position:

  • Possess a valid California Special Education Teaching Credential
  • Knowledge of learning development, California State Standards, and assessments
  • Possess skills in planning, setting agenda, and coordinating/conducting meetings/trainings
  • Knowledge of special education laws, codes and regulations, and the IEP process
  • Knowledge of differentiation and project based learning

  • Possess a bachelor's degree

Responsibilities

Students:

  • Provide special education services as defined in each student's IEP.
  • Provide accurate and timely data for evaluating outcomes for students with IEPs
  • Maintain student records for current and former students with IEPs
  • Develop and implement transition plans for all students matriculating to High School

Families:

  • Provide parents with regular reports on their child’s progress towards IEP goals
  • Mediate disputes between parents and schools
  • Communicates regularly with parents, teachers, and other staff on the IEP process
  • Gather feedback and input from parents each semester to improve processes and supports

School:

  • Direct special education services for all students with disabilities and ensure that school is meeting the needs of each student and their IEP.
  • Maintain open lines of communication regarding special services with all interested parties; respond to concerns of parents, teachers, and school leaders
  • Facilitate IEP meetings
  • Manage OT/PT/SLP or contracted services in accordance with students IEPs
  • Assist with the coordination of a multi-tier system of support
    • RTI
    • PBIS
  • Design and lead the screening process for special services
  • Coordinate the implementation of federal and state grant applications and manages appropriate IDEA grants
  • In collaboration with the school leader, monitor special education enrollment & projections

Legal:

  • Interpret and remain current on all federal, state, and local mandates for special education and Section 504 services
  • Ensure that the school remains in full compliance with all federal, state, and local laws
  • Handle all communication and documents discretely and professionally
  • Handle necessary services and duties in partnership with our school SELPA.

Compensation and Benefits

The Education Specialist position offers a competitive salary comparative to job experience that is benchmarked against local school districts and charter schools. The current pay scale for Unbound Stockton is from $58,000 - $102,000 depending on years of experience and educational degrees. Additional stipends are available based on additional education or licensure. Unbound Stockton also offers competitive employee benefits rates with regards to health, dental, vision, and participation in the CalSTRS retirement system.
