The systems in place for educating our children and prospective teachers no longer work. Times have changed, but the way that education has been done has largely remained the same, even in spite of innovations. Drake Academy of Excellence has been built to shift the educational system from one that is industrial and test driven, to a model that promotes human development and acts on the research of what is best for children and how they learn. Shifting a system that has become so deeply ingrained in our practices, mindsets, and even in society, is an enormous task, but one that our team is committed to seeing through. In all honesty, the Drake Academy of Excellence is not just a private nonprofit elementary/middle school. It’s also home to a teacher and leadership development collaborative, where we invite innovative leaders and teachers into our classrooms to see our model in action. After this, participants are provided with ongoing coaching, mentoring and accountability in their schools and places of business. This ensures that we are leading change and equipping others to do the same. The critical element to this being successful is surrounding ourselves with those who will challenge and sharpen us to be our best. Our mission and vision from the start was to collaborate with the world’s best universities and authorities in education in order to create this model. We are glad to say that we have formed partnerships with people in those spaces who will help make this school a reality.
