Lawrence Woodmere Academy, a 109 year old independent school, proudly educates three year old students to students in grade 12. LWA is located on a lovely suburban campus in Woodmere, Long Island, New York. We are eight minutes from JFK Airport and 40 minutes to midtown Manhattan with the Long Island Railroad stop located two blocks from our campus. Our student body is a diverse one with students coming mainly from Queens and Long Island as well as several countries around the world including China. LWA students certainly live one of our school's credos with our community "at home with the world." Along with our rigorous academic program that meets all of our students' learning needs, LWA is an A+STEM school. We have an award winning, premier Arts program in theater, music and visual arts with students performing in our historic theater. Our dynamic STEM program enables students to explore all of the areas of STEM. LWA Upper School students participate in the Global Scholars program. We are one of 25 schools in the United States to offer this program. LWA also has a partnership with Middle States accredited St. Francis College of Brooklyn which enables our Upper School students to take up to 10 courses during their time at LWA at a significantly reduced price with students potentially earning 30 college credits by graduation. We also offer several AP courses including AP Chemistry, AP Calculus AB and BC and AP US History. Students' experiences are rounded out through our well known athletic program and performing arts opportunities. In addition, we have a wide range of extra curricular activities through our Tiger Fame program as well as after school experiences. Class size is small with classes at between 10-15 students on average. Students are well known to teachers and staff. Students participate in our Advisory program where students have an Advisor who follows their progress and is that point person for them.
