OVERVIEW
About

North Florida School of Special Education (NFSSE) gives students, ages 6-22, with intellectual and developmental differences a place to learn, thrive, and become the best versions of themselves in an innovative academic and therapeutic environment. At North Florida School of Special Education, our faculty and staff are committed to providing a comprehensive, Individualized Education Plan (IEP) for each student that meets his or her needs and sets realistic goals for success. NFSSE offers six levels of Unique Learning System (ULS) curriculum and instruction within seventeen classrooms, and adheres to a 1:6 Teacher to Student Ratio. NFSSE’s Berry Good Farms is an urban farm that promotes job training and healthy lifestyles through organic farming and culinary arts. Art with Soul provides budding and experienced artists a place to create and pursue career paths in the visual arts. The campus is anchored by the Delores Barr Weaver Therapeutic Equestrian Center, serving NFSSE students and children and adults with intellectual and developmental differences throughout Northeast Florida. North Florida School of Special Education is a frontrunner in the field of Reverse Inclusion, a technique in which typical students and adults visit our school and are immersed in our special education classrooms. They accompany and assist our students in their extra-curricular activities and vocational training. The purpose of Reverse Inclusion is to create a comfortable environment in which our students are able to interact successfully with their typical peers and appropriate role models. Through these and many more innovative programs, NFSSE sets itself apart as the premier learning environment for students with intellectual and developmental differences in Northeast Florida.
