In 1980, a group of dedicated lay and educational leaders recognized a growing need for a community Jewish day school in the South Bay community. Our founders believed that the school would represent the merging of the modern world with the great traditions of the Jewish people. Since its inception, Yavneh has been on the cutting edge of pedagogical best practices, and to this day is “committed to academic excellence in general and Jewish studies within a strong, vibrant community where each child is celebrated and challenged. A Yavneh education is about discovering how a child learns in order to maximize each student’s potential while fostering curiosity, encouraging risk taking, and ingraining a love of learning.” This mission is accomplished through a commitment to relevant learning, inclusion of all students, intentional study of Jewish values, and a focus on community. Yavneh has developed its own unique version of a program called the Keshet of Kavod (Rainbow of Respect) through which students select, learn, and live seven values as a community each academic year. In recent years, Yavneh has spearheaded new approaches to Jewish Day School education, including the introduction of a dual-immersion Hebrew language approach to all subjects which is currently used in K-5, and an approach to learning which intentionally integrates Jewish Studies with general studies throughout the school.
Are you creative, collaborative, and do you love learning with children? The Yavneh curriculum surpasses current standards by going deeper and giving students more opportunities to demonstrate their knowledge in ways that are meaningful for them. Teachers co-teach in a dual language environment (Hebrew and English) and are constantly collaborating with each other, integrating subject matter, and adapting lessons to the students’ interests which yields a rich, diverse curriculum, and inspires students to achieve their full potential. Specific requirements and expectations: At least three years of classroom experience. An effective Yavneh teacher has a thorough knowledge of cognitive and social-emotional development, uses a variety of teaching techniques, incorporates technology into the classroom, establishes positive relationships with students, communicates with parents, collaborates with colleagues, demonstrates initiative, is flexible, adheres to professional standards and models integrity and respect. Prioritizes opportunities for integration across all curricular areas and displays creativity in thinking and teaching.
