Description

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Central Falls School District encourages applications from qualified and interested candidates in working as part of this 10-month residency program (beginning in late August 2024 and ending the last day of the school year in June 2025) with the District. Selected individuals will serve as a “Warrior Teaching Fellow” as part of the District’s highly successful Warrior Teaching Fellows Program. The Fellowship will require passionate leaders in urban education to serve as instructional learning facilitators and student-centered teaching advocates in all six Central Falls schools while at the same time helping to bridge the gap between English language development, academic proficiency and the social-emotional support our students and families need in their schools and community.

Since the program's inception, more than 55 Fellows have become FT teachers in CF or near by districts. It has become one of the nation's most innovative approaches to substitute teaching and developing an aspiring teacher pipeline.

Fellows commit to at a minimum one year of paid service (opportunity to continue the work into year two and three is possible) to collaborate with administrators, teachers, and staff in providing a variety of academic and growth mindset supports in and out of the classroom. The Fellows will be responsible for developing, facilitating and implementing various best practice strategies and concepts focused on one or more of the following: Student-Centered Learning and Teaching, Enrichment, Social-Emotional Development, and Community Responsiveness. During the school day, Fellows will serve as either classroom instructional substitutes or restorative support in their assigned school cultivating strong personalized relationships with students and their colleagues. Outside of school time, Fellows are highly encouraged to be involved in many of the after-school programs and activities. Fellows accepted into the program will have the opportunity to personally and professionally develop skills by participating in numerous District-wide professional development experiences in the areas of personalized learning, English language development, restorative practices, community responsiveness, social-emotional learning and student agency.

All Fellows will go through a required summer training program the week of August 19, 2024 and are to attend monthly professional development sessions - all PD is paid time. Finally, Fellows must have the courage and passion to inspire change in our schools, influence the lives of our students, and become "guardians of equity" for the youth of Central Falls.

AN INNOVATIVE TWIST:

Unlike the traditional substitute teacher, Fellows are hired to work 185 days (to include professional development days) and report to their assigned building for the entire school year. Principals are encouraged to use Fellows as needed in their building, but never in an administrative/clerical role. Fellows can be used to:

· Facilitate learning in the absence of the classroom teacher;

· Provide additional classroom supports in the role of co-teacher or instructional aide;

· Shadow master teachers so that they can professionally develop the needed instructional and classroom management skills;

· Sit in on teacher team meetings, student meetings, and/or professional development opportunities; and

· Support the restorative staff and build positive relationships with students.

Work Schedule: Fellows are required to report to their assigned school for 185 (to include professional development days) days and follow the bell schedule (start of day/end of day). Fellows are not required to attend any after school meetings/programs/training, but are highly encouraged to do so. Fellows are compensated for their time out side of regular school hours.

School Assignments: The District will select your school assignment based on a series of factors. There are always at least two Fellows in a building and you remain in that building the entire year.

Professional Growth and Support: Fellows quickly become valuable members of your school community. Some come to us with a background in education, while others do not. Regardless, each of them has asked for continuous feedback and support, especially as they navigate the many challenges new teachers encounter in the field each day. For our Fellows, classroom management is the number one area of focus they will require support in, especially early in the school year. Fellows will attend a monthly PD series facilitated by our Induction Specialists. The purpose of the year-long professional learning is to discuss challenges and to develop action plans for continuous improvement. If you have specific professional development opportunities for Fellows, please let them know. We want to keep these champions of CFSD with us!

The Central Falls School District can provide city housing to interested candidates. Additional information available upon request.
