Description

Parkland Preparatory Academy is a therapeutic day school approved by ISBE, serving students age 5-22, in the areas of:

· Emotional Disability

· Specific Learning Disability

· Other Health Impairment

· Autism

· Speech and Language Impairment

· Developmental Delay

· Traumatic Brain Injury

· Unique circumstances that impact their success in traditional public-school settings.

We provide comprehensive educational, social- emotional, and functional programs.  Our evidence-based curriculum aligns with the Illinois Learning Standards and our social/emotional interventions are utilized to meet the individual needs of students, to help them reach their greatest level of self-sufficiency.

We are seeking to hire Special Education teachers with LBS-1 certification. If you do not yet have this certification, there is opportunity to be employed while working to attain it.

Requirements/Qualifications:

- Professional Educator License- LBS1 or LBS1 endorsement

- Strong behavior management skills

- Ability to collaborate with other professionals in a fast paced environment

Duties/Responsibilities:

Implementation of standards based lesson plans

- Ability to individually differentiate instruction according to IEP's

- Apply effective behavior management techniques/programs

- Engage students through multifaceted curricular materials

- Construct legally sound IEP's

- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with Parkland students, supervisors, coworkers, subordinates, supporting agencies, and a variety of external agencies.

Job Description:

- Teachers work to design instructional opportunities for students to access state learning standards, achieve IEP goals, BIP goals and transition goals.

- Secondary teachers are well aware of district graduation requirements.

- Teacher is able to manage the classroom environment and the various adults assigned to supporting classroom needs.

- Teacher monitors students receiving related services weekly (Speech, Occupational Therapy, Counseling, etc.)

- Must accept direction, adhere to policies, procedures and carry out assignments.

- Must demonstrate tact, resourcefulness, patience, and dedication and react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.

- Maintains ongoing progress records for all students assigned and communicate regularly to parents.

- Demonstrates preparedness for IEP meetings through the submission of drafted documents according to supervisors timeline.

Very important- Has the ability to support students who begin to mainstream to a less restrictive learning environment through maintaining regular contact with home school staff, District Rep. and student's parents in order to facilitate a successful permanent transition.
